GO ASTROS!

This Friday my dad is going to throw out the first pitch at the Astros game.  I know!  Isn’t that AWESOME!!! We are so excited.  As most of you know (or at least the people who really know us that read this know) that we always have shirts made every year for my dad’s birthday/astros game…we always go as a family to see a game around his birthday (Sept.1st). This year, our shirts are centered around the first pitch instead of daddy’s birthday!  My little model tried on the shirts for me.  I thought they turned out cute.  Seth designed them…you know, since he has THE EYE!!!

Morning fun with boys AND wood for playset 108 Morning fun with boys AND wood for playset 110 Morning fun with boys AND wood for playset 113 Oh and we have passes to be on the field for batting practice.  Please pray for us because this will be an interesting trip in the car with both Trigger and Campbell.  We’ll see how that turns out!  And don’t worry, I will be taking a million pictures (hopefully) on our trip!

ER Visit

Well, Thursday, July 22nd, Campbell had been spitting up more than usual.  He has acid reflux and we expect him to spit up at least once after his feeding.  But that day it was WAY more than usual.  In fact, that afternoon, he spit up 10 times after one feeding.  I was a little concerned but kept on going about my business.  I put Campbell down awake to do something quickly and he went to sleep.  OK…THAT IS really strange because he is really doesn’t like to be put down and usually starts crying after a few minutes so the fact that he went to sleep and stayed asleep was not a good sign.  When he finally woke up, I checked his temp and it was 101.8.  WHAT?  He was 7 weeks exactly and I knew that anything over 100.4 was NOT good.  I got on the phone and called Dr. Slushers office and left a message for Lori (the nurse).  In the meantime, I called Matt and rocked Campbell…trying to NOT flip out!  About 30 minutes later, I checked his temp again and it was 99.6 which is great.  Soooo now I was confused.  I talked to Dr. Slusher and she told us to go straight to the ER because even though the temp went down, it was dangerous that it was up that high to begin with.  She told us that they would run tests and to be prepared to stay the night.  I called Matt and told him to get home…frantically packed our bags…waited on Matt’s mom to come watch Trigger.  We left for the ER and didn’t have to wait too long.  He didn’t have any temp there either.  The ER dr came in and it was obvious that he thought we were wasting his time!  They took some blood to check his white blood cell count and a few other things.  They tried to get a urine sample in a little bag but couldn’t so they had to put a catheter in…oh how hard it is to watch your poor baby have painful things done to them!  Then, we just sat and waited.  Someone else came in the room and told us that they didn’t have enough blood to do the tests so they had to stick Campbell again to get more!  After waiting a very long time, the ER dr came back in and said that the blood work looked great but he had talked to the oncall pediatrician (which was not Dr. Slusher) and she had recommended that they do a spinal on Campbell to rule out meningitis.  We were a little shocked. AND it was obvious that the ER dr didn’t think that was necessary.  When we asked his opinion,  he said he wouldn’t do the procedure if it were his child.  We asked them to check his temp again and it was still normal.  We (actually Matt) signed the papers to decline the procedure.  I was so worried that we had not made the right decision.  However, I knew there were risks to a spinal and I didn’t think it was worth the risks when Campbell had only had fever that one time.

And, I thought this was strange…they had a computer in the room.  I’m sure this program was not suppose to be up while patients are in the room.  It did not have the name of the patient (just initials) but had who was in each room, age, and what was wrong (unconscious, fever, et.).  It was interesting to see what each person was in there for but I still think that would be against privacy policies!

Campbells ER visit 026 After we got home, Dr. Slusher called us (I had tried to call her when we were in the ER) back.  She was quite unhappy that the ER dr had given us the advice to not have the spinal. She told us to check his temp every three hours and if it went back up above 100.4, to go back to the ER.  If it didn’t, we were to take Campbell in to see her at 9 the next morning.  Matt went to Walmart and got three different kinds of thermometers.  We checked it all night and it never went back up.  The next morning, Dr. Slusher had blood work done again.  And, after two sticks and LOTS of digging around in Campbell’s arm, the blood work came back great…just like the night before!  So we are assuming that he had some kind of virus.  WHEW!  I’m so thankful that our precious little boy is OKAY!!  ER visits are NO fun!

Home

We have spent alot of time at home lately and I’m loving it.  However, I do really need to run at least ONE errand so I don’t go stir crazy.  Our normal day looks like this:

7:00/7:30- Get up

      - feed Campbell (Campbell eats every three hours still during the day unless he’s asleep…I’m not going to put his schedule on here  because    the timing all depends on his first feeding of the day) and  feed Trigger

8:00-11:00- Trigger plays; I try to do laundry/dishes (NOTE that I used the word “TRY” because little Campbell can be quite demanding!)

                - Around 9:00- I pin Trigger in to the back portion in the house and put Campbell in his bouncer or carseat and I take a shower and get ready.  You know

it’s amazing how fast I can get ready these days!  I sometimes wonder what in the world used to take me so long.

     - We also usually use this time slot to run our daily errand too….if we don’t get it done now, we have to wait until after nap.

11/11:30- Feed Trigger lunch

This past week I fed Trigger his first peanut butter and jelly sandwich.  Our pediatrician recommends that you wait until 2 years of age          before giving your child peanut butter because of the increasing amount of peanut allergies.  Well, I chose to go ahead and try it BECAUSE Trigger found a bag of reeses pieces that I had and ate whatever was left…so I assumed that meant he wasn’t allergic.  Of course like any neurotic mother, I took a million pictures of him eating the sandwich.  You know it’s bad when Trigger didn’t even blink twice at the fact that I turned his lunch time into a photo shoot.  HAHA! OH and by the way, HE LOVED IT!!!  I’m so glad because that will be something easy to feed him…I never like peanut butter and jelly when I was little.  In fact, I don’t think I’ve eaten one before…just tasted.  Now, as an adult, I will eat just peanut butter on bread!

12-12:30/1- We play some more

12:30/1-3ish- Naptime (I don’t have a picture of Trigger napping because he’s such a light sleeper.  I do have this funny picture of Campbell napping though!)

This is Trigger (and Campbell) watching Cars and eating a little snack.  That bowl in the picture is the bowl that I used to eat popcorn out of when I was a little girl!

6:00- Eat supper

6:45- Bathtime

7:15- Bedtime--  I have to tell this story because it was so sweet.  Background: I like to sing “amazing grace” to Trigger when he’s really upset or sometimes while rocking him for nap.  Well, last night, I read his three little board books to him.  He was pretty talkative…more than normal so I was thinking that it would take him awhile to settle down.  Well, we always get up and turn off the lamp and then we rock him.  As soon as I started rocking him, Trigger sat up and said, “an gace” which is usually how his says Anna Grace (my niece…his cousin).  So I said, “Anna Grace”.  Then, to clarify, he said, “sing…an gace”.  OHHHH…”you want me to sing Amazing Grace” .  And he said, “uhhh-huhh”.  So I sang three verses of Amazing Grace and just rocked that sweet boy.  Maybe he will share our love for hymns!  Oh how I just cherish those sweet moments!!!

I have to add this as well.  Matt was trying to fix our air because it had gone out.   So Campbell was laying on Trigger’s big boy bed while I read/rocked Trigger.  After singing and rocking, I picked Trigger up and went to put him in his crib.  He usually grabs a pacifier and lays down.  This time, he was concerned about Campbell and sat up and kept saying his name.  I reassured him that I was going to get Campbell.  Trigger just continued to sit up and watch me leave the room.  He told me night night and love you.  We didn’t hear a peep out of him.  I LOVE, LOVE that I can just leave him in his crib and he will just lay down and go to sleep on his own.

That’s pretty much our day around here.  It’s chaotic and most of the time the house is a WRECK…like 99% of the time! but it’s so fun and our boys are such a blessing. If you are friends with me on facebook, you probably read about all the crazy things that Trigger gets into…When, I post those things, I’m not complaining.  We tried REALLY, REALLY hard to get pregnant with both of our boys and then we had difficult pregnancies with both…and NICU stays with BOTH.  So we are VERY, VERY thankful for our crazy, hectic life!

One more thing, at some point in our day, we usually have a naked little boy running around our house.  But of course, even when naked, you need accessories and the perfect pair of shoes!

Happy Birthday, Mallory!!

Matt and I have some close friends, Brad and Michelle that have two children.  One, Mallory, just turned three this past week and their second child, Thomas, is about 7 months old.  Mallory had her birthday party last weekend at the jumpy place (forgot the name).  I wondered if Trigger would like jumping because he had never jumped in one before.  OH BEFORE I CONTINUE, I want to say thanks to my sweet parents for offering to keep Campbell so I wouldn’t have both boys.  Matt was out of town on his CORPS retreat.  It was a long weekend without his help but we survived!  Anyway, when we arrived at the party, Trigger clung to me like an alligator was trying to eat his little toes.  I must say that I secretly loved it because he just isn’t a child that sits in my lap or cuddles with me…he is too busy for that!  He quickly warmed up but was hesitant to go into the jumpy and when I say jumpy, it’s not just the thing you go in and jump…this one is like a little obstacle course with columns you have to weave in and out of, three slides, and tubes to crawl through.  I went in with Trigger at first because it probably really wasn’t geared for 2 year olds.  Brad was in there also and helped Trigger go up and down the slides at first.  Then, I went up and down with him a few times.  THEN, he was on his OWN…he absolutely LOVED it!!!  He did still love to have Brad help him.  I had gotten out of the jumpy after I was comfortable with Trigger in there on his own and I saw Trigger come out and start looking around.  I walked toward him and yelled at him to let him know where I was…assuming he was looking for me.  HAHA…after looking around, he made a beeline to Brad, and starting tapping him on the leg and pointed for him to get back in the jumpy.  PRECIOUS!  Just Precious.

Here are a few photos from the party!

First, we have the birthday girl.  Isn’t she just the most precious little girl.
